A short summary of a great conference
Salient 2018: Day 2
The day kicked off with the first session, when the delegates in the EU Council started to discuss the topic – defense policy in Europe. The experienced delegates excelled and first-timers made much progress during the day. Problems arose only in using 'I' instead of referring to themselves as their assigned country, and in understanding the concept of yielding the floor back to the chairs. So, the chairs tried to think of a punishment to teach the delegates a lesson. All in all, minor issues in otherwise excellent council.
Moreover, the delegates handled the given crises very well. And believe me, the crisis team does not give up in this council. Anyway, the good thing is that this greatly contributed as content for memes.
Salient 2018: Day 3
Crisis, crisis and a little bit more of crisis in the FAC. The previous day brought many leaked information and now fake news were discovered. As if leaks haven't caused enough chaos.
Here is what happened in a nutshell – a secret informal meeting between few EU member states on the topic of Europe defense policy was held. The fact that this meeting was necessary is unusual, because this topic is currently being discussed in the Council of the EU. To make things more bizarre, this happened at the time of the state funeral of the former president of Italy Giorgio Napolitano. One could say that certain EU member states put the 'fun' in funeral.
Moreover, the news about secret meeting came to everyone's favorite world leader Donald Trump, who decided to withdraw American troops from Europe to teach Europeans a lesson.
This resulted in quarrels between the EU member states and then followed by collective turning against the United States and Donald Trump's childish overreacted actions.
To help the delegates with the struggle, the highly considerate media and crisis team joined forces and created many (many) memes.
The debates were fruitful as always and were proceeded even during lunch. Topics like 'What is the best place to start a goat farm', 'How to get a perfect afro haircut' and 'What is our spirit animal' arose and things got messy. At the end of the day we met at a pub in city center where we cheered intensely for the Croatian team in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
Salient 2018: Day 4
The Salient 2018 Conference came to an end. it's coming home.
It was already mentioned before, but praise is always welcome, the Foreign Affairs Council was a pleasant surprise. The delegates led fierce debates, while keeping it completely professional and respectable. The chairs showed their rich MUN experience and the order was preserved in the council. Rules of procedure were strictly followed and corrected when it was necessary.
This doesn't of course mean that the chairs don't know how to have fun, far from it, they were the main party animals with sick dance moves. And finally, the performance and commitment of the crisis directors was just right.
Despite the fact that two socials were postponed and some activities even canceled due to World Cup, they have not failed to provide every participant of this conference with entertainment, relaxation and the most unusual and delightful conversations.
The organizers truly outdone themselves and I'm happy to say that this conference was a complete success. I'm sure that each person here, including myself, does not regret the decision of applying to this MUN.
