Joint statement following the Foreign Affairs Council meeting Ljubljana, 12 July 2018
By the following nations: The Republic of Poland, The Republic of Estonia, The Kingdom of the Netherlands, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Republic of Italy, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Kingdom of Spain, Republic of Slovenia, Republic of Portugal, Hungary, Republic of Croatia
The recent disclosures of alleged hacked emails on sites like WikiLeaks and persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts to undermine European institution and to influence public opinion here. If after extensive research the allegation turn out to be true, we strongly condemn the interference by the Russian Federation in the internal affairs of the European Foreign Affairs Council. The forging of documents, that are intended to saw dissent between member states of the European Union, will be taken into account for future European Union-Russia relations. Taking into account previous efforts by the Russian Federation to undermine the democratic legitimacy for the presidential election of the United States of America in 2016 and cyberattacks on Estonia, the aforementioned nations are considering to take the following actions after more extensive research: the expelling of more Russian diplomatic personnel and the consolidation of economic sanctions that following from the Crimean annexation.
